Pets Welcome – Luxury Dog Friendly Suffolk @ Woof Farm Barns!

by Carl Scott, June 25, 2013

Testimonials | Dogs | Pubs | Beaches

Your dog needs a holiday too! Dogs account for a massive proportion of our guests to sunny Suffolk and we even allow some of them to bring their well-behaved owners!

We combine a dog-friendly ethos with the luxury that many don’t expect to find in holiday cottages accepting dogs. We don’t simply ‘tolerate’ guests with dogs, we welcome them

We welcome dogs in all seven of our Suffolk holiday cottages as this is a huge part of the ‘stay at home’ holiday cottage market. We normally say a maximum of two dogs but we are happy to discuss other requirements. We are also happy to discuss other pets with you on an individual basis. We’ve had house cats and rabbits before but it’s mostly dogs!

We are also delighted to have been awarded the Pets Welcome accreditation by the English governing body ‘Quality in Tourism’ backing up our approach.

Our library of canine guests is growing! Check out loads of photo’s of our four-legged guests here

Taking pets away when enjoying a holiday or break in England is an increasing trend and one of the mainstays of our business. Nearly two million dog owners and around one million cat owners take their pets away when enjoying a break away from home

In response to customers who do not wish to be parted from their pets, the welcome Pets! Scheme will give pet owners (dog, cat or bird owners) the confidence that they are booking quality accommodation that meets their and their pet’s particular needs

The criteria that we have in place to conform with the guidelines includes;

* Water bowls and food bowls available

* Torch and nightlights to be available

* Refrigeration facilities

* Chews or treat, which can be chargeable. Well, we provide a treat every time with no extra charge

* Suitable pet waste disposal facilities

* Poop bags

* Pet washing facilities and towels available

* Following each departure, all areas used by pets to be cleaned thoroughly to remove any evidence of them (including odours) – We have a stringent cleaning regime anyway, with extra precautions and processes when we have had pets in

* Where dogs have free access to garden areas, suitable fencing should be provided – all our cottages have secure, enclosed gardens

We are also duty bound to display the following information at a central easily accessible information point;

We provide all the necessary information for pet owners on local vets doctors, dentist, hospital and all night chemists

Maps and books suitable for reference on walking dogs in the area. We have lots of info in the cottages but also have a central info point and bike shed with far more info than you could get through in a month!

Map of Suffolk - in the middle are our Romantic, Luxurious Self-Catering, Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottages in the Heart of the Rural Suffolk Countryside

We have a special page on our other website giving you lots of ideas of places to enjoy dog friendly places and walks around here

In additon we have information for our guests on the location and opening times of the nearest shops, nearest bank/cash machine, public telephone, post office etc

There’s info folders in all our cottages with lots of details of local dog-friendly restaurants and pubs – again, in additon to all the info we hold here, we have loads of ideas on

In 2012 we had a fabulous review by October Ward for ‘Out & About’ dog-friendly magazine, which really speaks for itself. October’s dog Roxy is the dalmation featured at the head of this page and in this pic, which is the lane we are on. This is the lane that leads down to the church next door and it’s perfect for stretching your dogs legs first thing in the morning. Get a long enough lead and you won’t need to stretch yours!

We have loads of great dog walks in the area and some great dog-friendly pubs around

Woodfarm House and all the barns have enclosed gardens too so you can rest easy, knowing that your dogs are secure. We provide spare dog towels, dog bowls and even dog biscuits for each pooch!

Dog Walking

There is a great little dog walk straight from our door, popular with all our dog owning guests. Crowfield Church is next door but one to our holiday cottages and is a nice little 20 minute loop with the dog

Crowfield Church - a great walk on Dog friendly Suffolk at all our Luxury, Self-catering Holiday Cottages in the heart of the County

It is one of the last remaining timber-framed Churches in Suffolk and is well worth a look. Two choices of public footpaths go from the Church across the fields beyond. Instead of turning in by the church you can walk straight on for miles and there are various other public footpaths across the fields so there’s plenty of exploring to do and loads for the dog to sniff out

This is a great area for dog-walking as is Suffolk in General. There are books in all the cottages on Suffolk Walks, with or without dogs and they are there for you to use whilst you are here

The nearest dog walk in most of the books is Barham, Baylham and Coddenham which is 8 miles. You could cheat a little and start it in Coddenham which is only a couple of miles down the road. The walk incorporates the Baylham rare breeds centre as well as taking you right past the Sorrel Horse Pub! Very dog-friendly

The next nearest one is a 5-miler taking in Cretingham and Brandeston taking you past The Queens Head – A great pub/ restaurant (you can see a theme here!)

There are also lovely lake walks at Needham and Hoppit Wood, both just 4 miles from here, featured our page on ‘Walking in Suffolk’ here

Dog friendly pubs

Whether you’re visiting Suffolk for the first time, or are a frequent visitor, or resident, it’s nice to know where you can go with your dogs. Suffolk has a wide range of dog-friendly pubs dotted all over. While some request that you keep your dog in the garden or terrace area, many allow dogs inside the pub as well. Here is a selection of pubs across Suffolk which allows pets either in the pub or in the garden.

The Star Inn is a cosy and friendly pub in Wenhaston that welcomes well-behaved dogs. It has a large garden and serves good food

The Tollgate Inn is a lovely restaurant and bar in Bury St Edmunds and has a large garden and seating area where dogs are welcome.

The Queen’s Head, Bramfield is an award-wining pub and dogs are welcome in both the pub and the garden.

The Sorrell Horse Inn in Woodbridge are very pet-friendly and dogs are allowed in the pub and garden and the same goes for The White Horse at Tattingstone

The Bildeston Crown allows well behaved dogs in the pub and they have a lovely, dog-friendly, outdoor seating area.

The Kings Head Inn in Orford allows dogs in both the pub, as well as in their rooms and  The Cock Inn in Polstead allows dogs in the pub.

The Cherry Tree in Belchamp St. Paul and The George and Dragon in Long Melford, both allow dogs in their pubs, except when food is being served.

The Crown Hotel in Southwold allows dogs in the bar areas, but not in the rooms or dining areas.

The George in Cavendish has a terrace/garden area where dogs are welcome, although they are not allowed inside the pub and the same goes for The Brantham Bull in Manningtree.

The Ship Inn in Woodbridge is dog-friendly, and so is The Angel Inn Wangford

Please do check with any of these pubs before you visit with your dog as their pet policies may change at any time.

Dog-Friendly Beaches in Suffolk

With miles of beautiful beaches open to the public year round, Suffolk is a great place to bring your dog on holiday.

The good news is that from October through April there are no dog restrictions in force in on Suffolk’s beaches so your pet can enjoy the benefits of any stretch of beach you like! In the summer however, there are dog restrictions on some beaches, so here’s a list of some restrictions from 1st May through to 30th September:

Aldeburgh – Although the main beach has restrictions during the summer months, there is a mile of wonderful dog-friendly beach just to the North of Aldeburgh which is well signposted, and stretches from the Wentworth Hotel to Thorpeness

Felixstowe – While the main beach has dog restrictions in place from May through September, there are dog friendly beaches on either side of the restricted area, streching from Spa Pavilion to Wheeler Road. These areas are well signposted and easy to spot. However dogs have to be kept on leads even on these stretches.

Dunwich – With the beautiful National Trust site of Dunwich Heath and a beach that’s dog-friendly all year round, Dunwich makes a fantastic dog friendly location with plenty of long walks and refreshing water on offer. Bear in mind however, that Dunwich is the home to RSPB Minsmere so there are occasional restrictions on dogs on the Heath (not beach) during the nesting season. If you’re not sure that your dog will stay on the beach then it’s best to check with nearby Aldeburgh Tourist Information before you make your trip to ensure these nesting restrictions aren’t in place

Southwold – One of Suffolk’s most famous beaches, it offers a fantastic holiday resort for the family. Although the main beaches of Southwold have dog restrictions in place during the summer months, Southwold Benes, just north of the main beach, is dog-friendly throughout

We loved our three night stay here.  The breakfast hamper from Carl on arrival was a delight and went down a treat the following morning.  Archie (puppy Labrador) enjoyed the secure garden where he did decide to keep himself happy by stealing the logs from the hedge! We went to Needham Lake which is a good walk and lovely scenery.  Archie enjoyed this too as he met lots of friendly dogs.  Framlingham Castle, is highly recommended – a lovely place to visit and dog friendly.  Stonham Barns is a good place for gifts.  A must, is Southwold beach, Archie loved it!  Overall what a great place this Barn was, just perfect from comfort and warmth, to location.  We will be recommending Wood Farm Barns to family and friends and hopefully will return again.

Another fantastic stay at Woodfarm Barns.  We stayed back in August.  There was still plenty more to do in December.  We enjoyed all the festive touches and the lovely sunny walks with the dog along the river Gipping at Dunwich Heath and Walberswick and then finally Eye, where the Four Horseshoes pub was extremely friendly and welcoming to us with dog in tow.  Great food and atmosphere.  Thanks again Carl for thinking of everything  and making us feel so at home.

Sunday 30th November 2014 – Graham and Alex with Poppy the dog;
We would like once again to thank Carl for the lovely warm welcome and wonderful relaxing stay in the Farmhouse.  An enjoyable and chill out 5 days.  Loved using the Aga and spending cosy nights in front of the open fire with a glass of wine.  Can’t wait to book our next visit soon!

Monday 17th November 2014 – Anne, Robert, Marian, Dave, Ceri and Paul with Branston the dog;
A very enjoyable ‘big birthday’ stay here at Woodfarm House – so much so we’re booked to come back next year!  We were spoilt for choice in deciding where to visit in Suffolk – Thornham walks is worth a visit, as are Lavenham and Woodbridge.  Aldeburgh is also a lovely seaside location with quaint shops and dog friendly tea

Sunday 16th November 2014 – Tom and Vic with Dolly the dog;
On arriving at the Granary I thought I had walked into Snow Whites Cottage. It is simply beautiful with all the home comforts we require. My lovely boyfriend booked the trip for my birthday and on the Saturday he proposed! There could have been no better place that it could have happened. To make it even lovelier our Chihuahua Dolly could share our special moment. We will be back.

Friday 14th November 2014 – John and Alison with Dipper the dog;
Our first visit to the Granary. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and milk in the fridge for our cuppa on our arrival. It’s a home from home; every detail so well done! Lovely views, fab walking with the dog. We have really enjoyed our few days and will be back again in the future.

Friday 7th November 2014 – Jenny and Derek with Rosie & Poppy the dogs;
Our 6th visit to Woodfarm Barns and another ‘pop – up’ restaurant this weekend. As always, so very enjoyable. Mark’s food is superb – delicate dishes, beautifully presented. A work of Art! Fantastic little place away from it all! Carl is very welcoming and has thought of so many little details; the breakfast basket supplies were great. After a disastrous journey we reached a little bit of heaven. We guessed it would be great when booking from the warmth of Carl’s introduction. Every possible need was met and all of the little touches that make the difference between good and superb. Our only regret was not having found this sooner! Couldn’t comment on the places to visit; how could we tear ourselves away from heaven!

Sunday 21st September 2014 – Kim and John with their 2 dogs;
Our first visit to Suffolk and found the County and the people very welcoming. Deban barn has all that you need and the extra
touches are so thoughtful. Did not expect the breakfast basket and the extra touches including dog tags – great idea especially for two naughty terriers! Found the pubs and shops very dog friendly which is a priority for us. Not cold enough for the wood burner so might have to make a Winter visit! Lay out is great – enough privacy but a community feel at the same time – not easily achieved. Thank you for a great holiday.

Sunday 7th September 2014 – Sarah and Terry with Tilly the dog;
Our first visit but not our last. The rural idyll has captivated us and we have had a superb week. The thoughtfulness and attention to detail from Carl and the team is exceptional. We have enjoyed the friendliness of all we have met and Suffolk is certainly a county of dog lovers who have welcomed us and our dog warmly and sincerely. Worthy of note is Needham lake (this was Tilly’s contribution) The Victoria Pub at Earl Soham for warm welcome and good food, Alder Carr Farmshop – dogs welcome in the courtyard whilst you eat lunch etc. and the Dog at Grundisburgh.. Exceptional and dogs welcome in all areas – not only given a dog biscuit but a whole bowlful! Warm and friendly, genuine and great service. Totally enjoyable stay -Thanks Carl and the team

To say we are on our 5th visit to Woodfarm Barns… says it all! Having stayed at the Granary x2 and the Farmhouse x1 and Deban Barn x1, we are working our way around all of the wonderful barns! Our dog Alice loved the garden as well as the walks to the church and over the fields every morning. A visit to Southwold was fun, the Lord Nelson for a pint of Adnams is a must. Returned to the barn for a snooze and then we had a date at the ‘Pop up’ Restaurant in the Farmhouse; 7 courses of outstanding food! Carl your vision of making guests feel so welcome and offering another dimension to their say never ceases to amaze us. To walk back from the Farmhouse along the path listening to the waterfall with a full moon showing the way to gipping barn is a memory we will always cherish. Thank you..visit number 6 is being planned!

Beautiful break in stunning accommodation. This was our first visit to Suffolk and the Barns and we were totally blown away with the beauty of both. We will definitely be back again soon and will recommend to our friends and family. Thank you for a delightful stay.

Friday 8th August 2014 – Rebecca and David with Dougal the dog;
This is our first visit to Suffolk having driven the long drive from Edinburgh with Dougal. Gipping barn really does look and feel even more amazing than it looks on the website pics. A Summer stay meant we didn’t need the underfloor heating. Carl has thought of everything and the most important thing.. Dougal was safe and happy in the enclosed spacious garden and this meant we were happy and unstressed. My husband said ‘idyllic’ and this sums it up. A beautiful and peaceful place. With plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. Loved it and will recommend!

Friday 14th March 2014 – Bernadette with Otis & Tiny the dogs;

This was my first visit to the Granary and definitely not the last. I felt so at home here. Going out and about was wonderful but coming back was a joy. This was also my first visit to Suffolk. I was bowled over by how pretty it is, peaceful and laid back. Locally I went next door to Suffolk Surplus and came away with a bow-fronted tall-boy. I took the dogs to Southwold and they had a wonderful time on the enormous beach. Carl is a wonderful host but not intrusive. He has an absolute gem here anbd I wouldf recommend a stay here to anyone and defy them not to enjoy it! My dogs loved it too. They have never had so many walks. Our every day dog walk was next door to Crowfield Church and a yomp across the fields. Thank you so much Carl for a wonderful, ‘lives up to expectations’ break away from my busy life xx

Sunday 13th April 2014 – Kelly & Lee with Ellie the dog;

We will definitely be recommending Woodfarm barns to friends. Absolutely excellent, luxury holiday accommodation in a beautiful location. A well needed break away from the demands of a busy job and city life. We will definitely be coming back. Many thanks

Sunday 16th March 2014 – Nick & Georgie with Dillon the dog;

Beautiful cottage, such a warm welcome from Carl. Breakfast hamper and dog biscuits a lovely touch. The barn has everything we needed. Lovely luxurious comfy bed and very peaceful. Great location, had lovely day trips Aldeburgh and Woodbridge. We will be back for sure xxxx

Friday 4th April 2014 – Rebecca & Duncan with Oscar the dog;

We’ve had a wonderful week in Gipping Barn. It’s beautiful and well–equipped with some great additional touches. Carl was very welcoming with informed us where to go, good walks etc. Much appreciated. Good pub/ restaurants are the Crown at Bildeston and the Anchor at Walberswick. Dunwich is the place to go with dogs; through the heather and along the beach – really good. Really recommend the Black Horse in Thorndon. All in all, a lovely few days

Friday 28th March 2014 – Laura with Liston the dog;

We’ve had a lovely week here and felt really relaxed. We’ve been out every day. The short walk to the church and back is great. Stonham Barns has a cafe’ there that does great smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The Beauty Barn is great also. My dog fell asleep whilst I was pampered. A must is Dedham, which is very pretty with great walks. The coast is a short drive away, Dunwich Heath is worth finding, so too is Minsmere followed by fish n chips at Aldeburgh. Will come back 🙂

Monday 5th May 2014 – Mick & Anne with Casey the dog;

A lovely welcome form Carl. A stress-free break was just what we needed. The scenery and pubs were great. Hopefully we can stay longer next time x

Friday 17th April 2014 – Jo & Leo with Todd the dog;

A very warm welcome from Carl. A lovely cosy cottage with a great garden for the dog. We much appreciated the breakfast hamper. This is our first visit to Suffolk and we will definitely be back. We loved the peace and quiet and the dawn chorus was amazing. Walking down quiet country lanes and across fields with the dog has been a delight. Aldeburgh is well worth visiting, a real charming seaside place. So glad this place is on the internet. Thank you Carl for a relaxing break in a well-equipped, luxury holiday cottage

Friday 7th March 2014 – Neil & Sarah with Alice the dog;

The fact that we are on our 4th visit to Woodfarm Barns…. says it all!; 🙂 On our first visit to the Granary in September 2011 we watched the oak beams being delivered for the other barns. Having stayed in the Granary again and also Woodfarm House with the family we decided this time to try Deben Barn. It’s cosy and warm and you feel relaxed as soon as you walk in the door. Alice our Golden Retriever loves the garden, her usual walk down to the churchyard and then on the footpath across the field to a pool for her morning swim!! The weather has been amazing and we have walked and walked. We found that you can park at the harbour in Southwold and then walk over the bridge to Walberswick. It takes about 40-50 minutes, then you can walk over the sand dunes and along the beach for miles. Lunch served at 3pm at the Anchor Inn was a bonus and they welcome dogs. Thank you Carl as usual and we will be back later in the year x PS – didn’t mean to write another novel in your book but get carried away! xx

Friday 7th March 2014 – Emma & Catherine with Alfie and Ollie the dogs;

We have had such a wonderful time at Alde Barn. It has been peaceful and relaxing and the weather has been surprisingly good. We could not have hoped for a better week here. The dogs have really enjoyed it also. They have loved the chance to swim in the sea and will be sad to go. We have all enjoyed the woodburner and the lovely barn. Wonderful 🙂 Carl was really friendly and helpful; we will definitely be back. See you soon

Monday 3rd March 2014 – Jenny & Derek with Rosie & Poppy the dogs;

Another visit to the Granary and to eat at Carl & Mark’s Pop Up Restaurant again. This is a great experience with superb food and cookery lesson with Mark. Definitely recommended. You have a winning formula and we wish you the very best for the future. All in all, a great weekend, very many thanks to you both

Monday 24th February 2014 – Paul & Naomi and the dog;

What an amazing barn conversion. Totally loved reading about it’s building work and painstaking restoration. The finished article is a real credit to those involved. It’s cosy, luxurious, warm and comfy and VERY VERY beautiful! Spent a gorgeous day in Southwold with our little dog; the beach was lovely and very well maintained. We went to Lavenham and OMG, if you like something quaint and out of the ordinary you absolutely must go there! Best cream tea in the world at Chilli & Chives in the High Street. Freshly baked scones with lashings of fresh whipped cream and raspberry jam to die for! Some beautiful churches including Crowfield and Blythburgh. The barn was a fantastic find – we couldn’t have asked for more – we will be back soon! Thanks and love

Friday 14th February 2014 – Lynda & Mick with Bracken and Saffie the dogs;

What a gorgeous barn and a lovely warm welcome from Carl. Everything we expected and more. Beautiful area, amazing beaches. Must see’s are Lavenham for the quirky buildings and can strongly recommend the Swan for a fabulous afternoon tea. A walk up the lane to the beautiful church has to be done. Southwold is fantastic; like stepping back in time, with pastel coloured beach huts and traditional pier with lovely shops. Aldeburgh Beach – lovely pebbly beach – dog friendly at this time of year. We ate at the Four Horseshoes (dog-friendly) and The Highwayman – recommend both. Would love to come back xx

Sunday 23rd February 2014 – Claire and Bill with Hudson the dog;

Enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. It is so cosy with the lovely log burner. We had lovely meals at the Four Horseshoes and Anchor in Walberswick and particularly on Friday at 745pm! Great beach walks at Southwold and Walberswick with the dog; his first time at a beach; how he enjoyed it!

Sunday 23rd February 2014 – Steve & Mandy with Sammie the dog;

Fantastic! Great welcome, relaxing 🙂 beautifully quiet but the birdsong was lovely; Robins, Greenfinches and Great Tits so far. Brilliant little touches all the way round such as bacon, butter and milk in the fridge, a lovely welcome basket of biscuits, eggs, fruit, mushrooms and tomatoes, coffee, tea, sugar, shampoo and shower gel all here! We visited Aldeburgh and highly recommend the fish & chips and Deli there 🙂 – Bury St Edmunds, Needham Market, Lavenham, Debenham (Fish & Chips handy for your first night here) Comfy, cosy and warm – just the place to unwind. We enjoyed waking up to birdsong every morning. Reluctantly packing but still have lots of great memories to take away with us. Many thanks Carl, you’re a star! xx

Sunday 23rd February 2014 – David and Anna with Bugsy the dog;

Really lovely weekend – We just chilled and enjoyed the romance of our surroundings. Went into Southwold for a fresh fish dinner and a stroll around the shops. Lovely! We would recommend the Crown for really good pub grub and the beach at Dunwich for raw, natural beauty. Bugsy our Pug Cross loved running in and out of the sea and even though it was Saturday we were almost the only ones there. A great base for us and the dog to explore Suffolk xxx

Sunday 2nd February 2014 – Kevin and Teri with Bosun the Irish Terrier;

Thank you for a wonderful welcome and the great comforts and hospitality of Stour Barn. The attention to detail with the welcome pack, loo roll, shower etc so often not available in dog-friendly self-catering dwellings made life so much easier. We enjoyed it tremendously and will be back to visit the delights of Suffolk again. These barns will be our first choice of visit. Thank you again

Monday 20th January 2014 – Peter and Agatha with Santos and Lyka the dogs;

Thank you for creating such a beautifully unique escape. The dogs loved the local walks, in fact we all loved it so much we got lost:-) This was just the kind of retreat from London we were hoping to experience. A lot of thought, creativity and detail has gone into the design of this beautiful barn. We will most definitely be back this summer. Thank you again for the delightful hamper and fresh produce xx

Monday 27th January 2014 – Jo and Tony with Motley the dog;

Short break away from home and work. Fantastic place to unwind. Easy to walk our dog along the roads despite all the rain and flooded footpaths. Having a fenced garden was a bonus for the dog and the barn was snug and practical. The Indian takeaway delivered which was a bonus too and we also visited the Deli at the Chilli Farm. Thank you Carl, back in the summer

Monday 20th January 2014 – Nicholas and Steve with Bertie and George the dogs;

Warmly welcomed by Carl and impressed by the standard of the barn. Warm in the barn too; the heating was so efficient we had to turn it down and never needed the woodburner! Luxurious! The dogs enjoyed themselves and we were glad of the 100% enclosed garden. We visited Rendlesham, Dunwich and Tunstall for walks and also discovered Kings forest. Most days were spent visiting favourite places along the coast from Orford to Southwold. Thanks also for the welcome basket, particularly the delicious eggs. Thanks to Carl and his team for an enjoyable winter break with the dogs

Monday 3rd February 2014 – Clare and John with Doogie the dog;

Had an excellent weekend. Took a number of long dog walks with Doogie, our Golden Retriever. Had a good look around Woodbridge, a wonderful riverside town. Enjoyed good family food at the Four Horseshoes in Thornham Magna – very dog friendly. A great weekend break

Sunday 26th January 2014 – Bradley and Sophie with Ralph and Rodney the dogs;

We all had a lovely few days in this beautiful barn. Exactly what we needed for a short break away. Very comfortable and cosy. Ralph and Rodney our dogs appreciated the wood-burner after a few long walks and play time in the good sized garden! Overall very enjoyable and we will be back again. Thank you x

Monday 10th February 2014 – Richard and Sandie with Mollie the dog;

We had a lovely, cosy and romantic weekend. The was everything and more than we expected for a relaxing break. Enjoyed the breakfast hamper and the woodburning fire. Took the dog on walks nearby; the church is well worth a look. Also went to Southwold for the day and can really recommend a pie shop in the centre of town, especially the moo and blue pie! Thanks Carl for making us very welcome xx

Sunday 2nd February 2014 – Sheila and Colin with the dog;

We had a wonderful weekend in a cosy barn. It’s a great location for visiting surrounding villages, plenty to see and do. We used the log burner which took me back to being a little girl. Lovely walks for our dog in the area. The breakfast hamper was fab, thank you Carl for the warm welcome. We will return for another relaxing break

Monday 27th January 2014 – Rachel and Carl with Bev the dog;

The most perfect barn cottage for a relaxing peaceful break. Lovely welcome from Carl and we enjoyed the breakfast basket. Bev the dog enjoyed the Bonio. We have enjoyed a warm and cosy weekend, just what we need and was a perfect way to celebrate the week we were approved as adoptive parents! We made full use of the log fire, the dog loved it! Friday 3rd January 2014 – Joanne and Katie with Piper the dog;

We had a brilliant time at Stour Barn. We felt very looked after and the special touches, eg the festive hamper were a real treat. There are lots of interesting places to explore, Walberswick being one of them. We even managed a couple of dog walks on the beach in Southwold, which was beautiful. I think its fair to say that bringing in 2014 was made very special by this lovely barn. We’ll definitely be recommending it to friends and hopefully we’ll get to come back again. Thanks x

Monday 9th December 2013 – Jenny & Frank with Lajoo and Pirdie the dogs;

A heart-warming, stress-busting week made all the more special by the little touches like the welcome hamper, the Christmas tree and decorations and Carl’s personal welcome, but especially his “absolutely nothing is too much trouble” personality. Everything has been thought of and we wanted for nothing during our stay. Great days out with the dogs and romantic evenings in reminded us how important it is to take time out and share these special breaks at these special places. Woodfarm Barns is one of those places. Great holiday

Monday 6th January 2014 – Jack & Elsa with Lima & Luna the dogs (from Holland);

We have already been several times to England but have never had such a warm and well-equipped, luxury cottage that allowed our two boxer dogs. We enjoyed it very much. Thanks a lot and we will definitely return

Friday 3rd January 2014 – Laura and Joe with Brando the dog;

Lovely cottage, just what we needed. Really cosy. Took a trip to the Queens head in Brandeston – lovely pub, good food and they made a fuss of the dog! Awesome wooden church down the lane from here and the owl sanctuary was great too. Thanks Carl! xx

Friday 29th November 2013 – Sue and Tony with Harvey & Billie the dogs;

Have had a very enjoyable mid-week break, bought for us by my daughter who also stayed in Alde Barn. Lovely home from home comforts. Carl has thought of everything; lovely welcome basket, comfortable bed, candles and best of all, underfloor heating. I don’t know who liked that more; us or our two dogs! Loved the enclosed garden; great for the dogs. Log fire made it really cottagey. Had a great day out at Minsmere beach near Dunwich. Very dog-friendly and they loved it. Only negative we can say is that we weren’t here long enough! We will definitely tell all our friends about these lovely barns and be returning very soon. Seems a great place to conme and spend Christmas with all the family. Thanks Carl

Sunday 10th November 2013 – Sue with Webb the dog;

As has been said many times, Carl has provided a warm, relaxing and very comfortable weekend retreat. Very dog friendly. Framlingham well worth a visit to the Saturday market. Monday 18th November – Jenny and Derek with the dogs;

We are great fans of Woodfarm Barns and this is our 4th visit. We stayed in Woodfarm House the first time, as the barn development was taking place. And what a development it has become! Carl has done such a magnificent job in creating these superb, luxurious holiday cottages. The attention to detail is amazing and everything has been provided for the guests comfort. On top of that we always get a great welcome from Carl. So do the dogs! Thank you Carl, see you again soon

Monday 4th November 2013 – Lindsey and Joanne with Missy the dog;

This is our second trip to stay in Gipping Barn and again it didn’t disappoint, living up to our high expectations from our first visit. It is really peaceful and relaxing and Carl is the ideal host. We split our time between the local area and the coast. We visited Eye, which has a small chocolate shop, which we recommend. We took a trip to Southwold for coffee on the pier and a stroll along the beach, then on to Aldeburgh where we successfully completed a treasure trail around the town, followed by a bag of chips on the sea front. Another great weekend, which ‘Missy’ our dog loved too! No doubt we will be back again!

Friday 25th October 2013 – Pete and Sharon with Hollie the dog;

Lovely luxurious place to relax and sleep and take a well-earned break! Recommend the farmers market at Snape (1st Saturday of the month) Great atmosphere and lots of local produce to try before you buy! Likewise, stock up on goodies from Alder Carr Farm – the best ice cream we have ever tasted! Only downside is not having enough time to do more walking, cycling and eating 🙂 We will have to come back!

Lovely breakfast hamper and great welcome from Carl (wine a nice touch) Recommend Emmetts at Peasenhall (Deli and Cafe) Alder Carr Farm Shop, Aldeburgh, Southwold and Walberswick. Monday 7th October 2013 – Lee, Jo, Sean and Kellie, with Blue the dog;

Another great weekend and Woodfarm Barns! The farmhouse is beautiful and such a comfy, luxurious home. As usual Carl has thought of everything we could possibly need. After purchasing some meat from Neaves of Debenham, we would seriously recommend to visit them as we had steaks and bacon cured in Guiness and Treacle and a great leg of lamb for Sunday lunch. The Aga was an experience but produced some great meals to enjoy in the dining room! 2 trips to the Deli at the Chilli Farm to purchase brownies to die for and mouth-watering Binham Blue cheese. We had a lovely afternoon stroll round Aldeburgh and the local dog walks were enjoyed by humans and canine. All in all a perfect weekend and we’ll be back for more! Thank you Carl. See you next year. PS – sorry about all the additional more than usual beer and wine bottles for recycling!

Sunday 22nd September 2013 – Julian and Helen with Millie & Del the dogs;

Just finished a lovely week in this cottage for our first visit to Suffolk. Days spent exploring the local area and cosy evenings spent in the cottage, burning a log or two! What sets this apart from others is the lovely warm welcome, a breakfast basket that sets you up for your stay, smoked bacon was yummy……… Had to buy more from the farm shop. 🙂 Bottle of wine left for you to buy is a nice touch and it tasted good too! The folders with local information are really well put together…. Best we’ve had in any cottage and helped us make the most of our week here. For dog walkers there’s the “50 Walks in Suffolk” Book; The Constable walk is a must as it takes you through some stunning countryside. Some of the things we enjoyed over the week as follows: Lavenham, quaint old village with crooked houses, worth a look. Framlingham Castle is a must to visit. Dog friendly and amazing views from the top. Circular walk around the Mere with the dog too. Southwold with its coloured beach huts. The Southwold walk in the book takes you past the ferry and the local fishing area. Aldeburgh worth a visit for the fish and chips. The Mill Inn is very friendly with biscuits for the dog too. The Red Lion pub in East Bergholt is dog friendly and serves a nice lunch. Biscuits for the dog here too! The Victoria in Earl Soham, dog friendly again and a nice lunch. The Four Horseshoes in Thornham Magna – Lovely old pub; dog friendly and nice food. All in all we had a fantastic week here and would recommend to others and come back. Thanks. PS – Would recommend frequenting the local farm shops as we picked up some awesome food from them!

Monday 23rd September 2013 – Nick and Alice with Charlie the Bulldog;

Our 4th holiday at Woodfarm Barns and our 3rd time staying in the Granary. The whole site is brilliantly presented and so many important details have been considered. We come for the calm and relaxing atmosphere and because we enjoy the luxury holiday accommodation but can still bring our two dogs. Dunwich and Walberswick offer great walks along the coastline and the dogs are allowed on the beach too! Thank you for yet another lovely break. We are planning our next holiday soon!

Reading through the comments from previous guests we can do no more than agree with everything that has been written before. The nicest holiday cottage that we have stayed in. Carl you should be very proud of what you have achieved here. We really couldn’t criticise anything. We ate at the Four Horseshoes – excellent. We visited lots of places during the week and enjoyed them all. Luxury accommodation, welcome pack, quiet and peaceful location; all excellent, what more can we say? Difficult to improve on 10/10

Sunday 29th September 2013 – Colin and Sharon with Megan and Finaud the dogs;

Well, we promised we’d be back with the dogs and here we are 13 months later. Still the same warm welcome and same helpful Carl. We were struck immediately upon arrival by how different the whole place looks after another year to mature. We thought last year that it would be hard to improve on that but well done Carl, you’ve managed it. And finally yes, we will be back. Thanks again

Good info from Carl with everything you need to know about the area and where to take the dogs, the dog-friendly pubs and dog walks, thanks

Friday 16th August 2013 – Jeannie, John, Christine, Darren, Grandad, Jack, Reece, with Misty & Jazz, the dogs;

A memorable family holiday 🙂 Thank you for our lovely welcome basket, the house is adorable and Grandad was still getting lost on the last morning. Suffolk was very welcoming and our fave places were Lavenham, Dunwich Beach (great for the dogs!) The Chilli Farm for lunch is fab and the Chilli shop was hot stuff!! Buxhall Coach House is a must for great Italian food. Will recommend others to holiday here Carl 🙂 xxx

A lovely week in a luxurious barn. Enjoyed exploring Suffolk – favourites were Aldeburgh, Southwold, Lavenham, Walberswick and Sutton Hoo. The cottage is of a high standard and the setting is wonderful and peaceful. Would and will, recommend to friends and family

Beuatiful barn, whole location perfect!! Breakfast hamper is very generous and lasts at least two days. Carl is a great host who really cares about your stay. Dogs loved it too. Fantastic place to bring them on holiday. Planning our next trip back, thanks xx

Monday 12th August 2013 – Marie and Peter with Nellie & O’Malley the dogs:

Lovely comfortable cottage in superb surroundings. Great walks for our two dogs. Recommend the Emmerdale farmshop at Yoxford, the butchers is open on a Sunday. Great place to visit is Dunwich – circular dog walks through gorse and heather with the pebbly beach just a stroll away. Thought the idea of extra wine in the kitchen a great idea – hic! The enclosed garden truly was, as our Houdini dogs didn’t get out! Loved the little church down the road; a good leg-stretch with the dogs first thing in the morning. Will definitely recommend the Woodfarm complex to others coming to Suffolk for a holiday. Thanks very much for a great romantic anniversary weekend

Friday 9th August 2013 – Sarah & Andy with Harvey & Murphy the dogs:

Sunday 4th August 2013 – Ian, Samantha and Melvin & Daisy the dogs;

This has to be one of the best mini-breaks we have had. Neither of us had been to Suffolk before but wow! We want to live here! We took Carl’s excellent local guide folder out in the car with us and explored. A must is Southwold and Aldeburgh. We visited twice and found everyone friendly and welcoming to our dogs. We also went back in time and visited Lavenham. We have both been impressed with the barn and general set up. Carl was very helpful and always at the end of the phone. Loved the breakfast basket on arrival too. Thank you for our holiday Carl and we will be back, hopefully in the near future

We have enjoyed a wonderful week celebrating our beautiful boy’s first holiday. The barn has proved to be very cosy; the perfect place to spend quality time together for a family holiday with the dog. We have enjoyed some great days out. Freddie especially enjoyed Easton Farm Park and our favourite was enjoying Aldeburgh in glorious sunshine. Thank you Carl for the warm, friendly welcome and great hospitality – We thoroughly enjoyed the bacon and other goodies!
